Here is a selection of projects I have been involved with through Coed Cymru, Caerphilly County Borough Council and Welsh Government which was funded through European RDP between 2010 and 2023. This work looked at the added value of our managed woodlands through improved supply chains and product development that sought to improve the use of our indigenous timbers. This was a whole systems approach which required working collaboratively from forestry and processing through to design and manufacture. The projects worked directly with our woodlands and their owners and seeks to produce products that has a net benefit to the Welsh environment through sustainable woodland management that enhances biodiversity, soil and water capture, locked in carbon and generated good long term employment. A special mention and appreciation needs to be made to Mr David Jenkins who was the director of Coed Cymru from 1992 up until his passing in 2015 and who’s tireless work and innovative approach to enhancing the health and quantity of the Welsh broadleaf woodlands has left a lasting positive legacy to both our environment and Welsh culture. I hope some of the information below is of interest and use to both woodworkers and everyone involved in sustainable timber supply chains where ever you are:
